Net Optics Aggregator Taps bieten Zugriff auf Vollduplex-Verbindungen mit nur
einer Netzwerkkarte bzw. Netzwerkschnittstelle.
Aggregation Taps werden grundsätzlich
in zwei Gruppen unterteilt - Port Aggregation Taps und Link Aggregation Taps:
Port Aggregator Topology
Leverage monitoring tools for multi-protocol visibility
Net Optics iTap 2 Port Aggregator is an intelligent tapping appliance that provides full duplex traffic streams to monitoring tools. The iTap 2 Port Aggregator can monitor two SPAN ports or one inline link and provides up to two tools with full duplex traffic. The iTap 2 Port Aggregator augments network-monitoring capability through the use of an easy to use Web UI, detailed counter statistics, SNMP traps, and field upgradable software.
Aggregation and Tap Mode
The Port Aggregator combines and regenerates both directions of a full-duplex link, sending all aggregated traffic out to two separate monitoring ports. Typically, full-duplex monitoring with a network tap requires two Network Interface Cards (NICs) with one interface for each side of the full-duplex link. The use of a Net Optics Port Aggregator enables one or two devices to simultaneously monitor both sides of a full-duplex link. When traffic levels exceed the capacity of the receiving NIC, the Port Aggregator stores the overflow traffic into the buffer memory. The buffers clear automatically when the traffic volume falls below the receiving capacity of the NIC.
When the aggregated traffic exceeds 100% of the monitoring device bandwidth, the iTap 2 Port Aggregator prevents having to switch out the Port Aggregator or re-route traffic to other tools by allowing the user to set the device into Tap Mode. In Tap Mode the Port Aggregator will function like a standard tap with half duplex monitoring, traffic from the network Port A and the network Port B are routed to monitor Port 1 and monitor Port 2 respectively. When the aggregated traffic no longer exceeds the monitoring device bandwidth the Port Aggregator can be set back to resume full duplex aggregation mode, using any of the management interfaces.
Packet Ordering and Timestamping
During the process of aggregating the traffic across a full duplex link it is not possible to discern the order in which the packets were received by the monitoring tool. Packet ordering is a configurable option that allows the user to configure the Port Aggregator to arrange the packets in the order that they were received, First In First Out (FIFO).
Timestamping, when enabled, replaces the CRC bytes of each packet in the monitoring data stream with an 8-nanosecond resolution timestamp. The timestamp provides the time relative to the time on the iTap 2 Port Aggregator and indicates which network port the packet was received in on. Enabling Packet Ordering and timestamping ensures that your monitoring tools see the packets in the time sequence that they arrived at the Port Aggregator´s network ports, eliminating false protocol violations.
Management Security and Flexibility
The iTap 2 Port Aggregator provides many security features that meet current security standards and requirements. Remote management security is ensured with Role Based User Access (RBAC), 1024bit SSL encryption (for HTTPS and SSHv2), IP Access List, and SNMPv2 / SNMPv3. The iTap 2 Port Aggregator can be managed remotely via the Web UI, SNMP management platforms, and SSH or locally via the serial console. All network statistics and settings can be modified in any of the management mediums.
Indigo Pro Support and Pro Push
The iTap 2 Port Aggregator is fully integrated with the Net Optics´ Indigo Management Platform, a centralized management system for Net Optics solutions. Indigo´s easy-to-use graphical user interface makes configuring and monitoring, of large deployments of, iTap 2 Port Aggregator simple, secure and easily manageable.
Each iTap 2 Port Aggregator comes with the Pro Push capabilities, which provides the ability to push Remote Monitoring (RMON) traffic statistics to network management systems. This enables the iTap 2 Port Aggregator to provide greater visibility into the network while simplifying your deployment options.

The need to monitor expanding volumes of 10 Gbps traffic is straining CAPEX budgets due to the high cost of 10G monitoring tools. The iLink Agg xStream helps you leverage your monitoring tool investments by:
* Enabling existing 1G tools to be applied to 10G traffic
* Providing the ability to take advantage of the full bandwidth of 10G tools
* Supplying more port density than any other 1U form factor link aggregator
The iLink Agg xStream is a link aggregator that combines traffic from as many as 20 network links or Span ports and sends it to four monitoring tools. Each of its 24 SFP+ ports accepts both 10G SFP+ and 1G-SFP transceivers, enabling 10G and 1G links, Span ports, and monitoring appliances to interconnect in any mix of speeds, including different fiber and copper media types. The iLink Agg xStream automatically performs all data-rate and media-type conversions, enabling 10G traffic to be sent to 1G appliances, and 1G traffic to 10G tools. This capability protects your security appliance investment, because the iLink Agg Xstream enables you to apply your existing arsenal of 1G monitoring tools to your new 10G traffic links. You can aggregate the traffic from multiple 1G links and low-utilization 10G links to fill up the bandwidth of expensive 10G tools.

The industry’s only real-time full-duplex aggregated traffic monitoring for 10 GigaBit networks to 10 GigaBit monitoring tools and appliances. Capture the traffic from a full-duplex link to two tools using only one NIC in each device.
The iTap 10 GigaBit Port Aggregator is Net Optics™ most flexible network monitoring Tap for 10 GigaBit networks. As more traffic converges onto higher speed network links, the need to maintain application, performance, and security standards has never been greater. Fortunately, capturing the data needed to keep a network running has never been easier, with this device’s combination of network interfaces supported, XFP choices for monitor ports, easy-to-use management functionality, and new filtering options.
Aggregation Flexibility
The iTap 10GigaBit Port Aggregator combines and regenerates both directions of a full-duplex stream, sending aggregated traffic out one or two separate monitoring ports. Typically, full-duplex monitoring would require two NICs (or a dual-channel NIC) in the monitoring tool - one interface for each side of the full-duplex link. Aggregation allows one or two tools to simultaneously monitor a link using only one NIC per tool.
Redundant tools and appliances are now easily attached to the link to monitor data, voice, and video traffic when needed. If a monitoring resource is required elsewhere in the network, at least one tool or appliance is always available to monitor vital traffic. Or, two different types of tools can monitor the same link simultaneously, enabling different groups to obtain the data they need without contention.
Information Intelligence
The iTap functionality provides displays in GUI form and on the front panel to view link utilization levels in real time. See the size and time of the last peak, when thresholds are exceeded, and more. A 10/100 management port interface enables remote management and monitoring from anywhere in the network, giving you the information you need to quickly respond to network events.
Indigo Management Software
Net Optics Web Manager and System Manager let you remotely set parameters, view status information, and monitor traffic statistical data. These interfaces provide security and performance information such as the number of oversized packets and CRC errors. Remotely set alarm thresholds, clear traffic data counters, and turn on or off a Monitor Port.
Web Manager - a browser-based interface that lets you change settings, view status, and retrieve data remotely with simple-to-use controls. View all configuration, status, and traffic data from a single page. Changes to the configuration can be made with a few clicks of the mouse.
System Manager - an SNMP management platform that offers centralized control of all Net Optics iTap devices in the network, to manage your entire monitoring access platform. As with Web Manager, you can view all status, configuration, and traffic information and make changes quickly to any iTap in the system. Each iTap can also be assigned to groups that identify workgroup, location, or organizational naming criteria. View SNMP trap information for system, thresholds, link, and power status. And, take advantage of easy-to-use reporting tools to baseline network behavior and share with upper management and colleagues. Existing industry standard SNMP management platforms can also be fully integrated using Net Optics Management Information Base (MIB).
Security - Optional functionality lets users configure the Port Aggregator so it will not display data on the LCD, and to disable the Management Port, thus preventing it from being accessed from the network. The Monitor Ports can also be turned off to prevent unauthorized access to the network link.
Enhanced Traffic Monitoring
An optional timestamping function appends a 32-bit timestamp to each packet sent to the monitor ports. This feature provides valuable information for tools that can process timestamp data to analyze detailed network timing. The timestamp includes a bit that indicates which network port the packet originated from.
An optional packet slicing function copies only the first N bytes of each packet to the monitor ports, for monitoring applications that only need to see header or front-of-packet information. Use of this feature can substantially reduce bandwidth on the monitor ports so even high rates of full-duplex traffic won’t exceed the monitor port or tool capacity. Packet slicing is also useful for applications such as lawful intercept where the monitor tool may be legally prohibited from seeing packet payload data.
Additional options for conditioning the data copied to the monitor ports includes the ability to drop packets with CRC errors, to regenerate good CRC check bytes, and to restrict the maximum packet size to an amount set by the user.
Reliability
Because of the amount of traffic and business dependency on today’s networks it is important that 100 percent of the data that crosses a link, even layer 1 and 2 errors, is captured. When Span ports, hubs, or installing a tool or appliance in-line are not options, an in-line Tap provides the right alternative for compliance, forensics, and network and applications trouble-shooting.
In the event the monitoring tool or Tap exhibits a power outage, the Net Optics hardware-based Fast Path function ensures that traffic across the link is not interrupted. Traffic to the monitor ports is stopped, but quickly re-established once power returns.
Redundant power connections in the Tap provide unsurpassed uptime protection.
Out of the Box Installation
Getting started is a snap with Net Optics. All necessary network and monitoring cables for plug-and-play deployment are included with the Tap. Everything you need, right out of the box.
Software Management Suite
System Manager

Net Optics 10/100 to 10/100/1000 Dual Port Aggregator Taps provide ultra-efficient access to critical links. This pioneering technology enables any two devices to simultaneously monitor a full-duplex link - using only one NIC per device.
Typically, full-duplex monitoring with a network tap requires two NICs (or a dual channel NIC) one interface for each side of the tapped full-duplex connection. The Dual Port Aggregator Tap combines and regenerates these streams, sending all aggregated data out two separate passive monitoring ports. The best part of this innovation is the onboard memory to make sure traffic isn’t dropped during bursts.
Buffering Prevents Lost Data
The Dual Port Aggregator Tap is designed to handle the combined traffic of a single full-duplex link. Normally, the traffic should be below the receiving capacity of the NIC, that is, less than 10,100 or 1000 Mbps.
When the traffic queue exceeds the capacity of the NIC, the Tap buffers the overflow of up to 512 megabytes per side of the full-duplex connection. For your convenience, the buffers clear automatically when the traffic volume falls below the receiving capacity of the NIC. For example, if there is a traffic burst and a tap connected to a 100 Mbps network port on a monitoring device is now receiving 140 Mbps of traffic, the Tap buffers data until the burst is over. The Tap then sends the buffered data to the monitoring device until the buffer is cleared.
Simple to Deploy
Net Optic Dual Port Aggregator Tap is a simple plug-and-play solution addressing the fact that many monitoring systems, including most software based solutions, only offer a single channel NIC, limiting full-duplex visibility. While adding a second NIC can help maintain data integrity and visibility, there is a trade-off in flexibility and ease-of-use. An operating system and NICs that enable binding are often required to achieve the same functionality and the Dual Port Aggregator Tap. In contrast, the Dual Port Aggregator Tap requires no additional components or configuration on the monitoring devices.
Better than Span Ports
In the past, span ports were occasionally used to aggregate tapped traffic. However, in addition to other shortcomings of span port monitoring, span ports support very limited buffering and can simply drop data during bursts. The generous buffers of the Dual Port Aggregator Tap prevent data loss in these conditions.
Zero Delay™ - A Net Optics Breakthrough
Highly sensitive network locations can improve monitoring performance via the innovative features of Net Optics Taps. If power is lost to other 10/100 Taps, the connected devices may introduce delays as they detect the power loss and try to re-establish their link.
Net Optics’ pioneering design ensures that any loss of power to the Tap is transparent to the network, and does not affect the flow of traffic through the Tap eliminating packet delay and loss as potential security issues.
Security and Visibility
Without an IP address, monitoring devices are isolated from the network, dramatically reducing their exposure to attacks. However, the monitoring device connected to the Tap still sees all full-duplex traffic as if it were in-line, including Layer 1 and Layer 2 errors.
Simply Plug It In
Full-duplex monitoring to a single NIC is a snap with the Aggregator Tap. All network and monitoring cables necessary for plug-and-play deployment are included with the Tap. Everything you need, right out of the box.
Reliability
For extra uptime protection, Net Optics Taps offer redundant power connections. Should the primary power source fail, the Tap automatically switches to the backup power source. Power LEDs on the front of the Tap indicate the current power source even if power is lost and reapplied, there is always zero delay to network traffic.

An Intelligent Copper Port Aggregator that provides real-time monitoring capability for one full-duplex link or two Span links at 10Mbps, 100Mbps, or 1Gbps speeds. The iTap Port Aggregator provides critical event alarms, link utilization and traffic statistics through the local and remote interfaces.
The iTap 10/100/1000 Port Aggregator is Net Optics most Intelligent Tap making network monitoring easier than ever. The iTap Port Aggregator displays the link utilization levels for both directions in real time, with the size and time of the last peak, right on the front panel. It is accessible from remote interfaces that provide information and control from anywhere in the network. iTap gives you the information and the passive access point you need to respond quickly to network events.
Performance Aggregation
The iTap 10/100/1000 Port Aggregator combines and regenerates both directions of a full-duplex stream or Span ports, sending all aggregated traffic out one or two separate passive monitoring ports. Typically, full-duplex monitoring with a network tap requires two NICs (or a dual-channel NIC) for each of the network ports, respectively. The iTap Port Aggregator enables one or two devices to simultaneously monitor a full-duplex link or two Span ports using only one NIC per device.
Buffers Absorb Bursts
When the traffic levels exceed the capacity of the receiving NIC, the iTap Port Aggregator stores the overflow traffic in buffer memory. For high-load links, the iTap Port Aggregator is available with 1GB of memory. The buffers clear automatically when the traffic volume falls below the receiving capacity of the NIC. These buffers allow the iTap Port Aggregator to absorb traffic bursts without dropping packets.
Traffic Monitoring
The iTap Port Aggregator monitors the utilization levels of both sides of the full-duplex link or Span connections. This information is displayed on the front panel and is available from the remote interfaces. The iTap Port Aggregator allows you to set a threshold for each network port. When a threshold level is exceeded, the iTap Port Aggregator issues an SNMP trap and the alarm LED illuminates. The iTap Port Aggregator records the level of the highest peak along with the date and time.
Tap Mode
If the aggregated traffic exceeds 100 percent of the monitoring port bandwidth, there is no need to switch out the device for a conventional half-duplex Tap. Simply enable Tap Mode and the iTap Port Aggregator stops aggregating the network traffic and instead sends all of the traffic arriving at network Port A to monitor Port 1 and all of the traffic arriving at network Port B to monitor Port 2.
Port Ordering and Timestamping
Port Aggregators cannot guarantee the ordering of the packets in the aggregated traffic stream until now. Enable the Port Ordering feature of the iTap Port Aggregator and internal timestamping ensures that your monitoring tools see the packets in the exact time sequence that they arrived at the Tap´s network ports, eliminating false protocol violations that impede speedy problem resolution.
For accurate timing analysis, use the Timestamping feature of the iTap Port Aggregator. When enabled, the CRC bytes of each packet in the monitoring data stream are replaced with an 8 nanosecond resolution timestamp revealing the exact time the packet arrived at the network port. In addition, the most significant bit of the 32-bit timestamp field indicates which of the two network ports received the packet.

Full-duplex monitoring to a single NIC is a snap with the Port Aggregator Tap.
Even if power is lost and reapplied, the network is not affected. All network and monitoring cables necessary for plug-and-play deployment are included.

Net Optics™ Port Aggregator Tap is a simple plug-and-play solution addressing the fact that many monitoring systems, including most software-based solutions, only offer a single channel NIC, limiting full-duplex visibility. While adding a second NIC can help maintain data integrity and visibility, there is a tradeoff in flexibility and ease-of-use. An operating system and NICs that enable binding are often required to achieve the same functionality as the Port Aggregator Tap. In contrast, the Port Aggregator Tap requires no additional components or configuration on the monitoring devices.
Typically, full-duplex monitoring with a network tap requires two NICs (or a dual channel NIC) - one interface for each side of the tapped full-duplex connection. The Port Aggregator Tap combines these streams, sending all aggregated data out one passive monitoring port. The best part of this innovation is the onboard memory to make sure traffic isn’t dropped during bursts.
Buffering Prevents Lost Data
The Port Aggregator Tap is designed to handle the combined traffic of a single full-duplex link. Normally, the traffic should be below the receiving capacity of the NIC, that is, less than 10 or 100 Mbps.
When the traffic queue exceeds the capacity of the NIC, the Tap buffers the overflow of up to one megabyte per side of the full-duplex connection.

Better than Span Ports
In the past, span ports were occasionally used to aggregate tapped traffic. However, in addition to other shortcomings of span port monitoring, span ports support very limited buffering and can simply drop data during bursts. The generous buffers of the Port Aggregator Tap prevent data loss in these conditions.
Zero DelayTM - A Net Optics Breakthrough
Highly sensitive network locations can improve monitoring performance via the innovative features of Net Optics Taps. If power is lost to other 10/100 Taps, the connected devices may introduce delays as they detect the power loss and try to re-establish their link.
Net Optics™ pioneering design ensures that any loss of power to the Tap is transparent to the network, and does not affect the flow of traffic through the Tap - eliminating packet delay and loss as potential security issues.
Security and Visibility

Net Optics Active Response Port Aggregator Taps provide ultra-efficient access to critical links with the option to inject an active response into the network. This pioneering technology enables any monitoring device to simultaneously monitor a full-duplex link - using only one NIC per device.
Typically, full-duplex monitoring with a network tap requires two NICs (or a dual channel NIC) - one interface for each side of the tapped full-duplex connection. The Port Aggregator Tap combines these streams, sending all aggregated data out one passive monitoring port. Response Ready
When active responses to network events are required, the monitoring port can be changed to an Active Response Port using a hardware switch. The Active Response Port buffers and transmits into the network link any type of Ethernet packet, from a simple TCP reset to ICMP messages. The Active Response Port can be easily switched back to passive monitoring via the hardware switch.
The combination of active response capability and passive monitoring in the Tap reduces the number of devices and network ports required for active response functionality.
